date: Nov 8
drink: Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon
what: Sunday night dinner/budget wine testing
J and i have a wine habit, in case you havent noticed. However, with the recent economic distruction of NYC and, therefore, our personal fortunes, we needed to come up with some sort of 'every day' wine - something not special (like the biltmore wines) nor fancy. Something appropriate for a sunday spent cleaning and unpacking (you know, 6 months later) - and who wants to waste fancy wine on unshowered, messy-ness?
Last week we bought 2 of these - one didnt even make the blog as it will not be part of project wedding, i dont think - that was the snapdragon cabernet. a $13 bottle that i picked purely based on its name... we also noticed the ravenswood on our way to the register - an $11 bottle - and figured what the heck? I knew i'd heard of ravenswood but couldnt remember what, exactly, i knew about it but for $11, was worth the experiment.
I think its safe to say that not only will it become one of our standard bottles but it may even be on the short list for wines to serve at the wedding :)

Newton Claret
date: Nov 3
drink: Newton Claret
what: anniversary dinner @ artisanal
J and I celebrated our 1 year dating anniversary on Nov 3. interestingly enough, this will be our only non-married anniversary ever (we'll have been married 18 days or something like that by this time next year...)
Even though $ is tight these days, we HAD to go and indulge at Artisanal - before we met we both listed it among our favorites and now, together, even moreso, i think... honestly, i could go there for every celebration, every event, every everything! (wish i'd known that they do private events BEFORE we booked the wedding- sigh)
We started the night with some tattinger champagne and then moved on to the wine... not sure of what to pick, we did what i always do - found something on the cheaper side but not the cheapest side... we paired it with a fabulous cheese plate, fondue, steak tartar (him) and parsnip soup (me). We followed it with a to-go piece of cheesecake later on that night. Thank god we got the to-go cheesecake - it gave me somewhere to stash the bottle so that i could bring it home with me ;)
